Marseille Dress

The Marseille Dress (named after the city) was inspired by the traditional Vareuse shirt – a classic naval garment originally designed for sailors. Typically made from sturdy or cotton fabric, the Vareuse is known for its simple, practical design and long sleeves.

It sometimes came with a matching hood and often featured horizontal stripes, reflecting its maritime heritage. Over time, it became a fashion item beyond the sea, known today for its casual, nautical vibe.

We kept the durable fabric, the signature neckline and collar, shortened the sleeves to elbow length, and extended the shirt into a mini dress. It can also be styled with the matching Shila striped tee underneath.

The inner pocket is a nod to its functional past — perfect for storing small essentials like tools, maps, or personal items, just like the sailors used to.
